The race for the 5th District congressional seat pits Republican incumbent Virgil Goode and Democrat Tom Perriello against one another. It's one of those races that's garnering a lot of national attention after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee added it to the "red to blue list" Friday.

The Democratic hopeful says he's using the recognition as momentum. Thursday, Periello toured the Hyosung Tire Plant in Scottsville talking with workers about keeping trade jobs in the area.

Throughout his campaign Perriello says he's focused on grassroots efforts like going door-to-door in the southern portion of Virginia. The candidate says the southside region has been devastated by losing jobs to overseas contracts.

Virgil Goode is making a campaign stop in Charlottesville on Monday. We'll hear from him then.

Both candidates will face off in a debate next wednesday, August 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Center on Pepsi Place in Charlottesville. NBC29 will bring you complete coverage of that event.
