SOMERSET, Va. (WVIR) - On Sunday, the Market at Grelen hosted a Warrior Hike to raise money for Warrior Expeditions. The nonprofit helps veterans with the transition back from the battlefield by taking them on expeditions months at a time.

The expeditions are modeled after the longer voyages veterans had to take back from war in the past.

"What our long-distance expeditions do is they help replicate that process of spending a long time in nature with the camaraderie of other veterans, and we try to facilitate that long process to transitioning back home,” Sean Gobin, with Warrior Expeditions, said.

Warrior Expeditions says the abrupt change form battlefield to society can be psychologically jarring, and the voyages act as a buffer.
