Moms Demand Action Hosts 'Talking Turkey and Gun Sense' Event
CROZET, Va. (WVIR) - The Crozet group of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is encouraging open conversation when it comes to working for a future free from gun violence. The group hosted 'Talking Turkey and Gun Sense' to discuss common safety practice and gun sense myths and how to have these conversations with your family around the Thanksgiving dinner table.
Presenters from 'Be SMART' - a campaign promoting responsible gun ownership aiming to reduce child gun deaths - spoke to the crowd about their message. Be SMART stands for Secure all guns, Model responsible behavior, Ask how others store their guns, Recognize the risks of teen suicide and Tell people to be smart.
Group leader Leanne Fox said there is one main thing she hopes everyone took away from the presentation. "We can all make sure that children stay safer by locking up guns I’m a gun owner and for other gun owners that fundamental safety and if you don't own guns you can do this by asking how other folks store their guns."
Albemarle county police were also on hand giving away free gun locks and answering questions. The next Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America event will be their soiree in December.
