People Gather on UVA's South Lawn for 16th Annual Pancakes for Parkinson's Event
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - On Saturday, the University of Virginia hosted the 16th annual Pancakes for Parkinson’s breakfast. Besides a meal, people also got a surprise from special guest President Jim Ryan, who went out to practice his pancake-flipping skills.
The event has raised over $650,000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
“My grandma actually had Parkinson's. Then around a month after I got onto the Exec team for Pancakes, my first year, she actually passed away. I think that propelled me to get even more involved in the event,” Pancakes for Parkinson's Co-Chair Samantha Strohm said.
"This is an event that brings students, faculty, staff, and alumni together to support a great cause and to eat pancakes. I can't imagine a better event,” Ryan said.
Thousands of UVA students showed up for the event and organizers hope to raise more than the $100,000 raised last year.
