MADISON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - After a nearly three month investigation of the Madison County Animal Shelter, state police say they are not filing charges for animal neglect. Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services started looking into it at the end of August following allegations from a former employee.

Madison County posted the findings on its website on Friday. State police spent eight weeks investigating and said that the shelter did not break any laws.

Madison County says it is making changes to its shelter policies and will be working with nonprofits in the area to use additional resources for spaying and neutering animals.
