Potential Zoning Change in Downtown Charlottesville Brings Mixed Reactions
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A potential zoning change that could be coming to part of Charlottesville is already prompting mixed reactions.
An area southeast of the Downtown Mall designated as a strategic investment area will go under the microscope next week.
The city is considering using form based code to rezone the area. That code would regulate how land and buildings are used while also creating new limits for density. City officials say they have gotten some mixed reviews.
"There are some people that don’t feel comfortable with form based codes including property owners, private citizens, and some developers…then there are also folks that are in favor of the form based code," said Neighborhood Development Services Director Alexander Ikefuna.
The Planning Commission will host a public hearing about the potential change on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
