CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Some alumni from James Madison University gathered together in Charlottesville on Sunday to help clean up a creek in the city. The alumni adopted the roughly half-mile stretch of Meadow Creek in 2017.

They come out to clean it twice a year. Their adopted portion of the creek runs from the entrance of Meadow Creek Gardens Park to the 250 Bypass. JMU alumni say while they may have gone to school in Harrisonburg, the cleanup provides an opportunity to give back to their new home.

"JMU is really into the big event they put on every year, and so the Adopt-A-Stream spiraled off of big event idea that we put on here. We've been coming out to this stream area for the last two years now,” said Emily Bagdasarian, JMU Alumni Association.

The group's next event will be during the spring of 2020. If you're a JMU alum that wants to get involved, the chapter encourages you to reach out via Facebook.
