CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - With Halloween behind us, it's on to Thanksgiving but first people have to get rid of those carved jack-o'-lanterns. On Saturday, people headed to McIntire Recycling Center for the Great Pumpkin Smash.

The event gave the community a chance to get rid of their old pumpkins while helping the environment. People stood on risers as their pumpkins went flying into the containers smashing into pieces.
