ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - November 3, 2019 - Virginia State Police Press Release:

Virginia State Police Trooper J.A. Wade is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Albemarle County. The crash occurred Nov. 1, 2019, at 10:50 a.m. on Interstate 64 near the 117-mile marker.

A 2008 Ford Fusion was traveling west on I-64 when the traffic ahead began slowing down due to congestion. The vehicle swerved to the right to avoid traffic and ended up running off the right side of the interstate. The Ford struck a ditch and then several trees before overturning.

The driver, Stanley M. Juchno, 47, of Staunton, Va., died at the scene. 

The crash remains under investigation.


November 1, 2019:

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate-64 in Albemarle County. Emergency responders were called out to the westbound lanes of I-64, near mile marker 118, around 10:50 a.m. Friday, November 1.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the victim. The Albemarle County Police Department had asked drivers to avoid the area for a couple of hours.

Both westbound lanes were temporarily closed, causing traffic to quickly back up on the interstate. One lane was reopened around 11:15 a.m., but police warned that they might close it again.

The Virginia Department of Transportation announced at 12:45 p.m. that the scene was clear, and all lanes were back open.

The crash remains under investigation.
