11/01/2019 Release from Do Good Charlottesville:

November 1, 2019 – The fourth annual Winter Wear Drive for The Haven is coming up quick! Starting November 3 and continuing through November 16, bring your donation of cold weather clothing, jackets, packaged socks, thermal underwear, scarves, mittens and gloves to this year’s host, Three Notch’d Brewery in the heart of the arts district (520 2nd Street SE, Charlottesville). Donors will get a voucher for a drink or appetizer for their donations.

According to event organizers Kerry and Colleen Rock of Do Good Cville, the winter wear drive was started by two friends over a beer. They wanted to help the homeless community stay warm during the winter months and decided to do a coat drive for The Haven. In the first year, their efforts resulted in 250 coats and by the second year, they collected enough coats to exceed The Haven’s needs. During the third year in 2018, the drive was expanded to include winter clothing such as hats, scarves, gloves, and socks. The goal for 2019 is to collect 600 items to give to those in need.

During special ceremonies on November 16, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., The Haven and Do Good Charlottesville will be on hand to thank those making contributions, speak about their missions and recognize GovSmart and Skyline Church for their donations to the Operation Detergent Drop and the Empowering Through Identity Program, which helps provide dignity through clean clothing and document recovery services for the clients of The Haven. As a special bonus that evening, Three Notch’d will debut a special version of its Biggie Smore’s brew for the lucky donors in attendance.

One additional drop spot is available for donations: Timberwood Taphouse at 245 Merchant Walk Avenue, Charlottesville, will accept donations during their regular hours from November 9 through November 15 and will be offering a free appetizer for qualified donations.

On November 17, donations will be made available to clients of The Haven. The Haven will also work with other local agencies in need of clothing and will partner with the homeless shelter in Harrisonburg to provide needed clothing for the winter weather.
