CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Election Day is one week away. Tuesday, October 29. Is the final day to request an absentee ballot by mail.

You can vote absentee for many reasons, including if you are out of town for business, a college student, disabled, have an illness, or work for the government.

Registrars for Charlottesville and Albemarle County say for this election, many people are opting to vote absentee.

"So far, the absentee turnout is looking more like 2017, which was significantly higher than 2015. So we'll see how that will translate on Election Day," said Albemarle County Registrar Jake Washburne.

"We expect over the next couple of days to continue to see an increase in voters coming to vote absentee in the office," Charlottesville Registrar Melissa A. Morton.

The last day to vote absentee in person is Saturday, November 2.
