Construction Continues on Charlottesville's CODE Building
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - More noticeable construction is set to start soon on the new CODE (Center Of Developing Entrepreneurs) building going up on the west end of Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall.
Crews have excavated around 90% of the former site of the Main Street Arena, and despite hitting some rock, are on schedule.
CSH Development President Andrew Boninti says now more construction of the building itself can be done in the area.
“As you look at the building design you’ll be able to walk under the building and connect directly to Water Street, which now you've got to come all the way up to the corner, and go to another corner,” he said.
That walkway will comply with new ADA rules.
Boninti says 60% of the building space has already been pre-leased. Plans for CODE include a courtyard, as well as nine floors of commercial office space and other amenities. The center will provide space for local businesses and nonprofits. Businesses are set to start moving in sometime in the summer of 2021.
