ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Several homeowners in Albemarle County are showing their neighbors how to use solar energy in their own homes. It's all part of a National Solar Tour involving more than 850 homes across 46 states.

On Saturday, multiple homeowners in central Virginia opened their doors as part of that tour to share why and how they made the switch to solar power, and their experiences.

"I would stress myself out running around the house turning off lights, following people around annoying them by shutting off the switches as soon as they walk out of a room. So for me, it helped my stress level because I don't worry about any of that now,” said Mike Hughes, homeowner.

Hosts of the open-houses say the goal of the event was to start a dialogue with neighbors about solar power without them feeling pressured for sales.
