GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Greene County is set to officially open a new pavilion and stage in Stanardsville this weekend.

Greene Commons is a farmers' market pavilion and performance stage behind the Greene County Administration Building. It's already being used as a farmers' market this season, drawing almost 300 people each weekend.

Work on the stage just finished this week, and elected officials will take part in a grand opening ceremony Saturday, October 5.

“This is a great space for the community to come together. Already, we've seen it with the farmers' market on Saturday morning, where people come together. You see people just standing around and talking and catching up with fellow residents,” said Greene County Economic Development Director Alan Yost.

Federal grants fund the multi-phase initiative to stimulate business growth and economic vitality in Stanardsville.

Festivities on are set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5.
