'Feel the Love' Program Gifts New HVAC Units to Central VA Families
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Three families in central Virginia will soon be sleeping easier thanks to the goodwill of three area organizations.
Beck Cohen, Lennox, and the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program are working together as part of Lennox's 2019 Feel the Love program. The idea of the program is to help one family with a free HVAC unit, but the team decided to triple the love.
One of the recipients, Alan Agee, has baseboard heat that no longer works. Each winter, he used several kerosene heaters to keep his family warm. He used window units in the summer, causing his electric bill to skyrocket.
Elsie Taylor has a heating unit from 1964 that barely works. Her and her husband will also be receiving a new heat pump on Saturday. She has some advice for others in need of repairs they cannot afford to fix.
"Try, go and fill out an application and you never know what it's going to turn out to be," Taylor said.
Cheryl Megginson of Charlottesville will be the third recipient. Right now, 473 families in Charlottesville and Albemarle County are on AHIP's waiting list for critical home repairs.
The new heat pump are more than $7,000 and will be installed at no cost to homeowners.
