CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville's Moose's By The Creek restaurant is donating more than $8,000 to help families dealing with childhood cancer.

Moose's raised the money during its first-ever Carnival for the Cure in September. In the last five years, three of Moose's loyal customers have lost a child to cancer and co-owner Melinda Stargell has seen first-hand how quickly treatment expenses add up.

"It's a struggle sometimes for families to eat or have gas money to get to the location where their children are being treated so we've asked that this money be donated to a fund to help the parents of the kids that are fighting cancer," Stargell said.

Next September, Stargell plans to host a bigger carnival and top this year's donations.
