CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - On Friday, September 13, 8-year-old Krislynn Eccles of Waynesboro officially signed to become the newest member of UVA's women's soccer team. Eccles may be young, but she is already inspiring those around her.

Eccles was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. Team members say her impact makes them a better team.

"As a team, we've made a lot of changes to try and boost our program but overall, Krisslyn has been the number one thing that's changed our program this year. She just brings so much joy and energy into all of our lives and we just hope to do the same for her. And to have this day to commemorate that is incredible,” said Meghan McCool, senior forward.

The signing was done through UVA's Team IMPACT, a nonprofit that connects children with serious illnesses to college sports teams. It's helped nearly 2,000 children across the county and partners with more than 600 colleges

Eccles will attend Cavalier practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.
