CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A group in Charlottesville is helping the community get to know the Democratic candidates running in the upcoming election.

On Thursday night, the Charlottesville National Organization for Women hosted Pizza and Politics at the Northside Library. Eight candidates each spoke for a few minutes to let the public know what they feel are the most important issues and to get feedback from the audience on their concerns.

"It's important to come out and support the candidates to learn about their positions, to lean how you can help them," said Charlotte Gibson of Charlottesville NOW. "Right now is the time people want to wait until toward the end of the campaign when the energy is already out there and they can see we're close to the election, but really right now is the time to get involved."

The group says it plans on doing some door-knocking periodically leading up to the election and will also host a postcard writing event.
