09/12/2019 Release from Charlottesville:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The City of Charlottesville and UVA Community Credit Union have begun preparations for Charlottesville's Grand Illumination 2019 and are in search of the perfect holiday tree to display over 20,000 brilliant LED lights for the festive lighting ceremony celebration taking place on Friday, December 6, 2019!

All community landowners, homeowners, and businesses are encouraged to submit trees for consideration. Tree candidates are ideally about 30 feet tall, fully branched on all sides, accessible by large equipment, and nearing the end of its life - or needing to be removed for safety reasons, etc. Submission deadline is Friday, October 4, 2019.

Once a tree is selected, city staff will coordinate the cutting and delivery of the tree at no cost to the owner. The donor will receive a thank-you letter from city officials and an invitation to the lighting ceremony. When the tree is removed in early January, it will be prepped for chip mulch and delivered to area school gardens.
