The Women's Committee at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is getting ready for one of its biggest fundraisers of the year. Later this month, the group will host events to raise funds to support Marianne's Room.

Marianne's Room is a resource for patients undergoing breast cancer treatment. Patients can receive wigs, scarves, special chemo caps and soft post-operation prosthesis for free.

The In the Pink Tennis Tournament kicks off Friday, September 27, with a mixed doubles match at Keswick Hall. Saturday, September 28, a Juniors In Pink clinic and match play event will be held at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Men In Pink tournament will kick off at ACAC, and the Women In Pink tournament is played at five other venues.

Organizers with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital say this tournament helps ensure women can access services to help them cope with cancer treatment and its side effects.

"The services that they provide are not available to many communities, and they're provided free of charge,” said In the Pink Chair Anjula Joseph. “Cancer treatment can take a significant toll on people emotionally, physically, and the kind of support that's provided is priceless."

The tournament is open to players of all skill levels, and raises more than $30,000 each year.
