CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - UVa true freshman running back Mike Hollins made his Virginia debut Friday night in Virginia's 35-point win over William & Mary.

Hollins got his first carry on the first drive of the second half and he scored on a 9-yard touchdown run.  He is the first Wahoo running back to score on his first career carry since Jordan Ellis did it in 2015.

The freshman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana finished the game with a team-high 78 yards rushing on 11 carries.  Hollins had two touchdowns.

Coach Bronco Mendenhall doesn't allow freshman to talk to the media, but Mendenhall says he's been a Hollins believer for over a year now.

"I thought Mike Hollins was the best running back in the state of Louisiana last year." says Mendenhall.  "I think he's physical, I think he's tough, he's dynamic and I continue to push our offensive staff to get him ready as fast as possible."

Bryce Perkins adds, "I was impressed with him in camp, just how he runs the ball. Big, but fast as well. He takes one cut and his acceleration is great. I'm sure after this last week he'll get more carries as well."

Virginia has a record of 2-0 and can improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2005 with a win Saturday at home against Florida State.
