CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A Charlottesville barber and entrepreneur is receiving a prestigious award from the Charlottesville Chamber Business Diversity Council this month.

Every year the John F. Bell Sr. Vanguard Award goes to a minority business owner who is making a difference in the community and Will Jones III fits the part. Jones is the co-owner of His Image Barbershop and Natural Hair Studio.

Chairman of the CBDC Quinton Harrell is on the committee that chose Jones to be this year’s recipient because he exemplifies what the Vanguard Award stands for.

"Really help to break the narrative of how African American males are seen in this community so it’s just as fantastic that he has been chosen for the award," said Harrell.

Jones has been cutting hair since he was 15 and is humbled by the honor.

"This is pretty cool that somebody else sees what we're trying to do see the work that we're doing and feels like it's valuable to the community," said Jones.

Jones will receive the vanguard at minority business luncheon on September 17 at Jefferson School African American Heritage Center. Thomas Penny, President of Donohoe Hospitality Services, will give the keynote address.
