Church Fire in Orange Co. Alters Sunday Mass Plans, Services Held on Lawn
ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A small fire at an Orange County church altered Sunday Mass plans, but did not stop the congregation from gathering. Flames sparked in a small room next to the altar at Saint Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church on Saturday night around 11:30 p.m.
One of the church's priests, Father Terry Staples, says the fire was accidental. “It never got out of that room. That room has a fire door on it, which is good. So it stayed in that room and so basically the cabinets burned up, it was just starting to get into the roof and a couple of the tiles, but then before it got anywhere else it was put out.”
Saint Isidore held both of its Sunday services on the church's lawn. Father Staples expects to hold Tuesday evening mass back inside.
