NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A central Virginia winery is looking to go green and not just with its grapes. Brent Manor Vineyards is teaming up with Sigora Solar to reduce its carbon footprint.

The winery is testing out a new blend of using solar energy for its grape growing efforts.

Owner Jorge Raposo says he had the solar panels installed this week to have them up and ready for harvesting season. "It’s going to end up paying for itself in about 5 1/2 - 6 years so that's a pretty decent return on investment. The idea of being as green as possible, as cliché as that might sound, it’s something we've always talked about doing.”

Raposo plans to be completely on solar by spring. He also hopes other wineries and breweries considering switching to solar to have less of an impact on the environment.
