People Confusing Humane Society with Animal Shelter Under Investigation
GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - An animal shelter in Greene County is hoping to clear its name after some confusion with another shelter.
Investigators are looking into allegations of animal abuse at Madison County Animal Shelter. However, some people are mistaking that organization with the Madison-Greene Humane Society (MGHS).
MGHS says it started receiving nasty calls and emails after social media posts were made last week about the Madison County Animal Shelter.
The humane society is a no-kill, nonprofit adoption center for cats. MGHS Volunteer Board Member Stephanie Dean says she understands how it would be easy to get things confused.
"Folks were concerned, upset,” Dean said. “Some were scared, because they had given us their cats before and they thought it was a safe place, which we are a safe place. So I can see why folks are confused, because we have ‘Madison’ in our name, but we're not affiliated with the Madison County Animal Shelter."
The Madison-Greene Humane Society offers spay and neutering clinics for cats and dogs by appointment only on Mondays and Wednesdays. Call 434-985-3203 to set up an appointment.
The society says the calls and emails have died down quite a bit, but it is still getting some.
