Evaluation Underway of Waynesboro Man Charged in Connection with Shooting
WAYNESBORO, Va. (WVIR) - In Waynesboro, a man facing an attempted capital murder charge is being evaluated on whether he's competent to stand trial. Guy Carlyle Venable Jr. allegedly shot at police back in July while they were trying to arrest him on outstanding warrants. The 29-year old also faces a slew of gun and drug charges.
On Tuesday, in general district court, a judge also agreed to evaluation for sanity at the time of the offense. The attempted capital murder charge could carry twenty years to life in prison. Venable is due back in court December 12 for a preliminary hearing.
