UVA Health System Offering Free Yoga Sessions to Help Cancer Survivors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The University of Virginia Health System is providing a new kind of medicine for cancer survivors in the form of yoga.
The hospital is offering free chair yoga sessions to help patients recover both physically and mentally. The class consists of various breathing and stretching exercises.
Those taking the class say it's a chance for them to take time for themselves and heal.
“One is you're taking time for yourself. You're not sitting on the couch at home, doing nothing, you know? It just gets you out of the house so that you're working towards a goal for getting better, because that's what you really want to do,” said cancer survivor Renee Sheffield.
The classes are open to everyone, not just cancer patients. All sessions are free on Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. If you're interested in taking part, you can call 434-465-9648 for more information.
