CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Police at the University of Virginia have a new device to help fight crime. They are called 'professional mobility devices' and the department has been testing them out for the last week and plan to order four more in the next month.

Lieutenant Cody Oliver said those scooters-like devices are being used as a community engagement tool for university police. "They are a fantastic community policing tool. It allows our officers to get out into the community in places that are sometimes hard to get to in a patrol car or on foot."

The professional mobility devices are also sustainable and going green is a path the University of Virginia Police Department strives for.
