CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Virginia field hockey team beat American University 2-1 in its first exhibition match of the season on Sunday.

The Cavaliers got on the board first with a goal by freshman Olivia Marrus in the 1st quarter, and sophomore Peyton Tollaksen made it 2-0 in the 3rd.

American cut the deficit to one with a score in the 4th quarter, but redshirt freshman goalie Taylor Henriksen kept the Eagles off the board for the remainder of the game.

UVa will play its final game of the preseason next Sunday at home against William & Mary.
