CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville is making a name for itself in the culinary world. A new list from OpenTable puts the area on the top 25 list for best college towns for foodies this year.

Charlottesville ranks 25th on the list in same company as places like New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.

The 25 Best College Towns for Foodies ranking is generated from reviews from diners throughout the year. OpenTable's top restaurant picks are Ten, Public Fish and Oyster, Hamilton's at First and Main, and Orzo Kitchen.

Restaurant managers and owners say the surrounding agriculture creates good food and makes farm-to-table restaurants easier to excel in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

"We've seen quite the trend here in Charlottesville," said Orzo co-owner Charles Roumeliotes. "We've seen a lot of great restaurants open up. There's a lot of great talent making great food. The access to local farms, produce during the summer, and meat products makes for a good mix and fit for the area."

All the restaurants NBC29 spoke with say it's an honor to have the area rank on the OpenTable list. They also say having their restaurants at the top of the Charlottesville portion speaks to the good food they plate every day.
