CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A member of the Virginia House of Delegates is honoring citizens who helped make legislation into law.

On Wednesday afternoon, Rob Bell presented the 2019 Citizen Lawmaker Awards at the Jefferson Madison Regional Library Central Branch in Charlottesville. The 58th District Delegate recognized seven people who helped champion new laws in the General Assembly.

"This is my chance to say 'thank you,'" Bell said. "These are people who had a problem and instead of just saying 'my goodness, somebody ought to do something about it,' they're the ones who did something."

Some of the laws that went into effect July 1 deal with the state's criminal injury compensation fund, operating a watercraft while intoxicated, and the child pornography registry.
