Campground Sexual Assault Results in 10 Year Sentence

Louisa –Louisa County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty E. McGuire announced today that the Louisa County Circuit Court has sentenced Jason Karsten, 38, to 10 years’ incarceration after being found guilty by the Court of sexually assaulting a woman at a Louisa County campground.
On June 30, 2018, the victim, a 38-year-old woman, traveled to the campground with her children. While at the campground the victim met Karsten. Late in the evening the victim walked to a lake and was accompanied by Karsten. Shortly after entering the water, Karsten sexually assaulted her. When finally released following the assault, the victim immediately told her friend and son what had happened.
At sentencing today, Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Wood stressed that the assault was a “predatory attack on the victim” and emphasized the enormous psychological harm done to the victim. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Win Consolvo praised the sentence imposed by the Court and said: “Through its sentence, the Court sent a strong message that Louisa County will not tolerate sexual assault and that law enforcement agencies in Louisa County are committed to seeing justice done for the victims of crime.” He also praised the efforts of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office to protect the community from sexual predators.
