Group Partnering with Charlottesville Business to Provide Space to Discuss Racial Trauma
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Brave Souls on Fire, a mental health advocacy group, is partnering with Natre'al Hair Design for a beauty shop event Monday, August 12.
Women will receive free haircuts and eyebrow waxing, as well as have a safe space to discuss mental health and racial trauma.
Event organizer Myra Anderson says August 12 is a day women in the Charlottesville community need emotional support.
"Anytime you're dealing with racism on any level it affects your mental health, and I think black women in particular don't have many spaces that are conducive to them openly having conversations about the things that deeply affect them," Anderson said.
Anderson says all the available appointments have been filled. She is excited to see how big the turnout is.
