CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - With a salute to the past and a march to the future, a Charlottesville treasure is getting a facelift. Plans to turn the historic Monticello Dairy Building into the Dairy Central are in full swing and more of the founding businesses are finally being announced.

The dairy market part of all this will be similar to DC's Union Market or New York's Chelsea Market. It will have a variety of Charlottesville favorites and new haunts that currently include a sandwich shop, brewery, and coffee shop.

The market will feature 18 merchants in total but the founding four are three Charlottesville institutions including taking it away sandwich shop, Angelic's Kitchen and Starr Hill Brewery. It also welcomes Brooklyn based Eleva Coffee.

The dairy market is part of a larger overhaul called the Dairy Central. It will also include an apartment complex and business spaces. The design team says it is honoring the building's heritage by refurbishing the original brick and some original tile as well.
