CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville's City Schoolyard Garden is asking parents and children to help out with the harvest before school starts up. The community is invited to help with garden maintenance at Burnley Moran Elementary School on Friday, August 16 and 23.

Volunteers need help weeding, watering, and harvesting some of the plants. You'll even have a chance to take a few things home with you.

“The kids get to see where their food is coming from, what's going into their food. We talk about soil and the nutrients that go into their food and how having more nutritious soil can also lead to more nutritious plants,” said Andy Blunk, with City Schoolyard Garden.

The City Schoolyard Garden is inviting volunteers to come by anytime between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Friday, August 16 and 23.
