FISHERSVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Augusta Health wants women to know they shouldn't wait until Breast Cancer Awareness Month to try to get a mammogram. Appointment slots fill up fast, and some book out weeks or even months in advance.

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommends women over the age of 40 get a mammogram every year.

Doctor Todd Goodnight says breast cancer is one of the most treatable cancers if you know you have it.

"Breast cancer is a statistical disease, in a way, in that around 12% of all women have a lifetime risk of getting breast cancer. So the only way that we can combat that is to get them in here. We can't change who gets breast cancer, but we can change how early we find it," Goodnight said.

Two Augusta Health locations, including the hospital, offer 3D mammograms. To schedule an appointment call 833-242-4584.
