Staunton Leaders Look for Reasoning Behind Area Golf Course Losing Funds
STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - The Gypsy Hill Golf Course is losing money and Staunton leaders are trying to figure out what to do. Data shared during Thursday night's Council Work Session showed a nearly $50,000 deficit for 2019.
Compared to five years prior, membership has almost been cut in half, and rounds played are down more than 15%.
"If we're not going to get enough usage by our citizens then we might want to direct that money and that land to some other use that more people would enjoy. But we don't know the answer to that yet,” said Mayor Carolyn Dull.
City leaders are just starting to talk. Mayor Dull said the council is considering separate meetings to get input from the community.
