Albe. Supervisors Pass Legislation for School Bus Cameras & Regulations for Homestays
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle County supervisors are working to create a safer environment for students getting on and off county school buses. On Wednesday night, the board passed new legislation that will allow the county to install cameras on all school buses.
The cameras will capture drivers speeding past stopped buses for the purpose of submitting traffic violations to police for better enforcement.
Also on Wednesday night, supervisors signed off on stricter regulations for homestays and bed and breakfasts. The board approved a zoning amendment that calls for more oversight in the way those short-term rental properties are operated.
That includes limiting the number of bedrooms and requiring homestay operators to live on site. Several community members spoke at a tonight's public hearing, asking supervisors to loosen the regulations. Others, who mostly live near current homestays, say they are in favor of tighter oversight.
