WEYERS CAVE, Va. (WVIR) - Blue Ridge Community College is unveiling its brand new Biosciences Center. On Tuesday, the people who helped bring that project to fruition took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The $20 million, 42,000 square foot building took crews just 15 months to complete. BRCC President John Downey said he's excited about the economic development impact that space will have on the region.

"To be able to train nurses with state of the art equipment is just so fabulous.  In addition to Merck and other local manufacturing companies needing cleanroom technology and more science-oriented employees. I think this facility is going to meet that need wonderfully,” said Dr. John Downey, BRCC president.

Classes in the new building will start in just a few weeks, but Downey said there's still time to register.
