ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Albemarle County man found guilty of shooting and killing his ex-fiancée in March of 2018, will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The life sentence, which was recommended by the jury that convicted 35-year-old Cardian Eubanks earlier this year, was affirmed by a judge Monday afternoon.

Judge Cheryl Higgins called Amanda Bates’ death - having been shot three times in the back of the head with her family only steps away - a cold-blooded killing.

Eubanks spoke briefly in Albemarle County Circuit Court, saying the slaying weighs heavily on him.
