NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Elliott Harding is running as an independent for the Virginia 25th District Senate seat in November. He is challenging Creigh Deeds, the Democratic incumbent.

Harding hosted a launch party to kick off his campaign at Wood Ridge Farm Brewery Saturday evening.  He met with voters to discuss his plans for the district.

One of the issues Harding spoke about is the proposed Dominion pipeline in Nelson County.

"Dominion and the pipeline here in Nelson County, I think that there’s something that needs to be adjusted so that never comes through," he said. "I think that people's property rights need to be protected and those localities and individuals ultimately need to have the right to autonomy and make the decisions for themselves.”

Harding says he is staying clear of corporate influence and that he is working for the people, not a political party.
