CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Former Virginia baseball star Joe McCarthy was one of the many players on the move when the Major League Baseball trade deadline hit at four o'clock on Wednesday.

McCarthy was traded from Tampa Bay to San Francisco, in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jacob Lopez.

Tampa selected the outfielder in the 5th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, and he was ranked as the 28th-best prospect in the Rays organization.

McCarthy was batting just .192 at the Triple-A level this season, but he's a .269 career hitter in the minors, with 29 home runs, and 187 RBI.
