CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A Charlottesville nonprofit is expanding its impact beyond central Virginia, taking farm-fresh food to more families in need.

The Local Food Hub (LFH) has partnered with Northern Virginia-based 4P Foods. LFH is currently serving more than 300 people, and expects that impact to grow significantly with this new partnership.

Started in 2009, LFH has helped local farmers get their fresh fruits and vegetables to Charlottesville-area eaters. The nonprofit’s  Fresh Farmacy program works to bridge the gap between the sources of healthy food and those in the community that don't have access to what's fresh.

The Local Food Hub says the program is having a positive impact on people's health: For instance, it helps folks make heart-healthy decisions, like picking pineapple over pie.
