GREENE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Greene County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting.

Deputies responded to a report of a car sitting with the engine running in an area along Dundee Road, about 100 yards from the intersection with Route 609, around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 10.

The sheriff’s office says 37-year-old Brian Dudley was found dead, and that this is believed to be an isolated incident. However, investigators say the victim was shot by someone.

07/11/2019 Release from the Greene County Sheriff's Office:

On Wednesday July 10, 2019 at 4:33 pm our office received a call reporting a car sitting on Dundee Road in park with the engine running. Upon arrival deputies discovered a black male unconscious and not breathing. After further review it was determined that the victim had been shot apparently by another person. He was deceased.

This is an isolated incident and the public is not at risk.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification to family members.
