Waynesboro Man Charged in Connection with Shooting, Chase
07/09/2019 Release from the Waynesboro Police Department:
A fugitive has been taken into custody after shooting at police trying to arrest him early this morning near downtown Waynesboro.
Shortly after midnight today a Waynesboro Officer observed Guy Carlyle Venable Jr., 29, of Waynesboro walking on W. Main Street near the Quality Inn parking lot. The officer knew Venable was wanted on outstanding warrants and attempted to stop him, however the suspect fled on foot. As the officer called for back-up, he engaged in a foot pursuit through the motel parking lot and down the stairs between the buildings when he observed that Venable had a firearm in his right hand.
The suspect continued running through the motel parking lot crossing into the Ace Hardware parking lot, and then crossed Alexander Lane. At this point, another officer drove his patrol vehicle down Alexander Lane to assist the pursuing officer as the suspect, now beside the former Animal Hospital, fired two shots at the officers who then lost sight of him.
Officers did not discharge any weapons.
A few minutes later a witness notified police that the man they had been chasing was picked up by a vehicle. Armed with a description of the vehicle and the suspect Waynesboro and Augusta County Officers located it and executed a traffic stop on Bradley Lane in Dooms.
Venable was positively identified and taken into custody by Augusta County Deputies who then turned him over to Waynesboro Authorities.
Mr. Venable has been charged with the following offenses and is being held at Middle River Regional Jail.

- Use of Firearm in Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Violent Felon
