A Canadian grocery store's attempt to lessen customers' plastic bag usage is having the opposite of the intended effect.

The East West Market in Vancouver, British Colombia, put what they thought were embarrassing slogans on the bag, saying, "Wart Ointment" and "Into the Weird Adult Video Emporium" and "The Colon Care Co-op."

The bags also say in small print, "Avoid the shame. Bring a reusable bag."

As it turns out, more people are rushing to the grocery store to get these original and retro-looking bags. The store's owner said the designs are so popular, he plans to transfer them onto canvas bags.

According to Plastic Oceans, "more than one million bags are used every minute." That equates to 525,600 million plastic bags a year.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday that Canada will ban many single-use plastic items by 2021, including bags, straws, cutlery and stirring sticks. He said it is "a problem we simply can't ignore."

We asked you on Facebook whether you would use the plastic bags. As of our 11 o'clock newscast on Thursday, 84% of 565 voters said, "Yes, I love them!"
