ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Albemarle County's chief deputy is now one step closer to becoming the county's first female sheriff after winning the primary.

On Tuesday, June 11, Chan Bryant received more than 4,500 votes, or about 63% of the total count.

Her opponent, current regional director for RMC Events Patrick Estes received around 2,500.

Bryant will now square off in November against town of Louisa Police Chief Ronnie Roberts, who is running as an independent.

Bea LaPisto Kirtley and Jerrod Smith also went head to head Tuesday night for the Rivanna District seat's Democratic nomination on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. LaPisto Kirtley edged out Smith with 54% of the vote, and she'll head to the general election in November.
