Man Receives 28 Years in Prison for Killing Girlfriend in Staunton
STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) - A Staunton judge has handed down a 28-year sentence for a man who admitted to killing his girlfriend.
Twenty-four-year-old Orion Painter appeared in court on Monday, June 10, for a sentencing hearing. He said he did not want leniency, but he apologized and asked the family for forgiveness.
In February 2018, he shot and killed 37-year-old Melanie Wade in the head inside a home on South Sheets Street.
He later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a firearm charge in connection with his former girlfriend's death.
Painter hid his face when the victim's 15-year-old daughter testified about wishing her mom was still here.
