CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - People in Charlottesville are taking part in a nation-wide effort to raise awareness and promote the health of our oceans. On Saturday, the ‘World Peace Love Liberty’ group organized a march down the Downtown Mall where participants held signs and chanted calling for clean water.

Organizers said efforts right here in central Virginia can make impacts all around the world.

“Even inland how that's affecting our waterways, leading to the ocean between farming and pollution and were so blessed to get fresh water first so it’s our responsibility to make sure it’s making it out to the coast,” said Jes Vegas, with World Peace Love Liberty.

The group is also encouraging people to use reusable bags and containers when possible in an effort to reduce waste and pollution.
