Charlottesville Fire Marshal's Office Charges Person with Damaging Property
06/07/2019 Release from the Charlottesville Fire Department:
Charlottesville, VA - Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 3:34 p.m., units from the Charlottesville Fire Department responded for a reported building fire. No evidence of any fire was present, however the restaurant's hood fire suppression system had been activated.
The Fire Marshal's office investigation revealed an employee maliciously activated the fire suppression system. In a collaborative effort between the Fire Marshal's office and the Charlottesville Police Department the employee was arrested and charged with the following class 1 misdemeanor offense:
- § 18.2-137. Injuring, etc., any property, monument, etc.
The Charlottesville Fire Department's Fire Marshal's office would like to remind the community that it is illegal to tamper with any fire protection device or system.
